The Horeca Academie
The Horeca Academie is a fast-growing private trainer within the hospitality industry. Participants of the Horeca Academie want to increase their professional competence as (independently working) cook, kitchen manager, specialized cook, and catering entrepreneur manager. We are looking for a (preferably native) English speaking teacher for our Professional Chefs education both at our locations Rotterdam, Rijswijk as well as Amsterdam.

One day a week, the students come to the Horeca Academie to refine the skills, which they can then continue to practice in the training company. The ages of the participants are between 18 and 67 years and they are distinguished by their high motivation.  In addition, we appeal to many private individuals who take their cooking skills to a higher level at the Horeca Academie.

Job profile chef cook
You are an experienced chef who can cook according to traditional methods. As a teacher or practical instructor you have gained experience in supervising (independently working) cooks in training. You have an affinity with plant based cooking and caring for the planet. The teaching days mainly take place in the kitchen or cooking lab where you get to work interactively and practically with approximately 12 participants. In addition to informing and inspiring the participants, you are also involved with the participants to guide them to the finish line. This means that there is also contact with the teacher from the training company of the participant.

When deployed as a teacher for a class:

  • You train the group of participants (cook or nurse) from your mentor group up to the aptitude test.
  • You take interim tests, such as a cooking assignment or a recognition table.
  • You mentor every participant in your group and monitor its development.
  • You put together educational menus.

Job requirements
You have completed the cook training yourself up to and including level 3, but preferably up to and including level 4. You are in possession of a mentor/ leermeesters degree and you have recent practical experience in the hospitality industry. You have a teaching certificate or are willing to obtain it.

What will you do?
As an instructor at the Horeca Academie, you’ll have the chance to share your knowledge and experience with our students, young and old. Whether it’s teaching practical lessons, guiding assignments, or developing educational materials, you’ll deliver it all with clarity and humor.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Teaching structured, practice-oriented lessons, from basic techniques to menu planning (in English).
  • Creating a positive learning environment and inspiring students to reach their full potential.
  • Guiding and assessing (practical) assignments and exams.
  • Maintaining regular contact with the industry, training companies, and mentors.
  • Staying updated on industry trends, because hospitality is always evolving!
  • Collaborating with an enthusiastic team of colleagues and contributing to the development of our programs.

Who are we looking for?

  • You have experience in hospitality and education (teaching experience is a plus, but enthusiasm counts just as much!).
  • Detailed professional knowledge: artisan cooking: from butchery to patisserie, managing a kitchen and/or business, and preferably a ‘Leermeester’ certification.
  • You have mbo-4 or hbo (intermediate or higher vocational education) level of working and thinking.
  • You are fluent in English (Dutch is a bonus).
  • You are pedagogically and didactically skilled, and you enjoy teaching a diverse group of students.
  • You are available 1 to 3 days per week and willing to work at multiple locations. Please indicate which of our locations suits you best.
